You’re thinking about having a piece of jewellery custom made just for you and I want you to enjoy the process from start to finish.
Here’s a guide to how we work together to create that piece of jewellery you’ve always wanted.
1. The Design Stage
The goal of the design stage is to produce a sketch of your custom jewellery creation and decide on materials to use. There’s a 450€ design fee for this stage which is fully refunded against your deposit.
Browsing the jewellery and compasses throughout this website can help with ideas. Sometimes similar pieces can be created with various gemstones so it’s a good place to start.
Maybe you’re not exactly sure what you want or have only a seed of an idea. Whether your design ideas are crystal clear or vague, together we can come up with a unique and special creation just for you.
2. Your Web Page is Created
I set up a private page on my website just for you where you can view all the design ideas we come up with for your custom jewellery.
You’ll be able to browse through a mix of sketches, photographs and more technical drawings and this is how we make sure to get a really clear idea of your requirements for this special creation.
You won’t have to worry about keeping track of how we’re doing. All the sketches and images will be in one place for you to view as often and whenever you like.
3. I Give You A Quote
Once a final design has been agreed upon and materials chosen, I give you a quotation for the finished article. This is the final price and will only be subject to change if you ask me to make any changes along the way.
Alterations impacting the complexity of the work or requiring different materials will, naturally, affect the price. Not all changes will though, and sometimes I can accommodate a few tweaks along the way to make it just right!
I’ll also be able to give you timescales for your custom creation at this stage and make sure it fits with any special dates you’re working towards.
Since silver and gold prices are changing all the time, the quote is valid for 14 days.
4. You Make A Deposit Payment
The design and materials have been agreed and you’ve received the quote for your custom jewellery or compass creation.
By paying your 50% deposit of the final price, you confirm that you are happy with the design and would like me to proceed.
As soon as your deposit has been paid, your place in my workshop schedule will be secured and I will organise the necessary materials.
We will have discussed your time frames by this stage so we’ll know that you’ll have your jewellery on time.
5. I Make Your Custom Creation
Once I’ve organised all the necessary materials I can get busy in the workshop making your custom jewellery.
With my dogs for company and some music playing, this is where your special creation begins.
Upon completion, I give you a comprehensive selection of photographs of the finished creation. These are set up so you can browse through them at your leisure on my website.
6. Balance & Delivery
Once you’ve seen all the photos of your custom jewellery and are happy with the finished creation, you can pay the remaining balance at your leisure.
Upon receipt of the final balance I organise the shipping, part of which is to provide you with a tracking number so you can follow its journey to you.
Here are some wearable compasses and meaningful jewellery creations I’ve made before.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the design fee?
When working with people on custom made jewellery, I ask for a Design Fee of 450 euros.
Arriving at a design and working through various options and costs takes time and the Design Fee enables me to give my customers the best possible service.
Don’t forget, once you’ve decided you’d like me to go ahead with your custom creation, your design fee is fully refunded against your deposit.
How long will it take?
It depends on my workshop schedule but I usually ask people to allow around 12 weeks for a custom made creation.
However, if I can make your special creation any earlier, I will.
